These botox myths are surprising everyone!

Considering getting Botox but too afraid to take the leap based on the negative things you’ve read? Here are just a few myths to ignore when doing research on Botox:

Myth #1 – Stopping Botox will make my wrinkles more visible

Botox will not cause wrinkles to be more pronounced if you choose to stop. In fact, Botox can retrain muscles not to contract, lessening the wrinkles later on in life. On rare occasions, Botox can accentuate new wrinkles because it might change the way muscles contract. However, if done by a skilled physician, this should not be an issue.

Myth #2 – Botox causes a loss of facial expressions

Botox only relaxes the muscles beneath the lines at the point of injection, so the rest of the facial expression remains the same.

Myth #3 – Botox isn’t safe for people over the age of 65

Even though the FDA approved Botox for patients younger than 65, the injection is used often for patients over 65. Because the makers of Botox didn’t study its effects on patients over the age of 65 extensively enough, they weren’t able to satisfy FDA requirements.

Myth #4 – Botox injections are very painful

Botox is quick, simple procedure. A small amount of numbing cream might be used so thepatient doesn’t feel pain during the injection. All patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Myth #5 – Botox is toxic and unsafe

Botox has been used safely for more than 20 years to treat a range of medical conditions. Though some side effects such as bruising, swelling or redness might occur, studies have shown that using Botox is actually safer than using Aspirin.

Myth #6 – Botox is too expensive

Botox is an elective procedure which means it’s not covered under insurance in most cases. The cost of the procedure is directly related to the amount of Botox you will have. Typically, Botox costs about $10-$18 per unit. A forehead can be treated for 20 units while crow’s feet can be treated for 25 units.
